“Architect of the month- Guy Benbenistie”

We have known Guy for a long time, even before he set off on his own office, Guy is a man of Soul, both a soul player and a man of spaces, a kind of Free spirit. Space and freedom of thought are other tools in his work that makes us all admire his projects just like his recent project in Woodland Hills, CA. in collaboration with Built to Perfection Inc. LA. Do you remember your first visit to Artigiani? Do you remember how we met?

Artigiani has been by my side, along the way for over 25 years.

My relationship with such a professional firm has kept me loyal with no real need to find another supplier, especially being that I get the total package which includes quality, reliability and the best of service. I do not recall the first time I started working with Artigiani, as we have worked on for so many projects together over the span of many years.

What was the main reason to collaborate with the company?

The main reason for our long-lasting relationship and ongoing collaborations are based on the simple fact that I know that once I hand over a project to be manufactured by Artigiani, I am able to get a goodnight’s sleep.

Tell me a little bit more about your work? your clients? your design?

I’m a designer, with a degree from HIT Holon. After graduating in 1993, I worked for four years at an architectural firm and from there I opened my own studio as an independent designer practicing architectural design. To my belief and from experience a designer has to provide the full scope of services, which I make it a mission to deliver the total design with every project. From the exterior to the interior, going all the way down to the smallest details to max perfection, this is what I can give to a client. From 2003, I worked with many projects ranging from residential to retail and commercial. From this point, I decided I needed a change and so I moved my family and professional career to New York, NY. I continued working on the same types of projects as I had in Israel, but it is in NY that I began combining the actual construction with the design. Meaning, an I became a Design Built company, carrying the projects from conceptual to the actual construction through to the finished project.

How did you come to work so significantly in the US, where did the close relationship come from and are there differences between clients in the country and in the US?

As a professional designer who has worked on projects around the globe, I have had the opportunity to experience many different scenarios working with a multitude of cliental coming from different backgrounds and with a wide range of budgets; which I was lucky to of had the opportunity to have my hands-on various designs and styles ranging from residential to retail and commercial. I feel that a good designer should understand and know to ‘speak’ the langue in all styles and to find the genuine language in each and every style he comes to deal with.

Artigiani has collaborated with me on many projects in the States, as well as providing custom hardware and stainless-steel displays, which I designed and then shipped overseas; never compromising over the quality and always delivering the best of service.

As a former and very active studio owner in Manhattan, I established many relationships and left with many happy clients, which to this day some of them are still using my services and even so kindly recommending me to others. For this, I am very fortunate to still be able to create and design both in NYC and LA.

Tell us about a design fantasy that you have not yet fulfilled

While in NY, I always had the dream to work bi-coastal, in NYC and LA. I am happy to say that I have now made this dream a reality. Currently, my studio is located in Jaffa (by the sea), so I am proud to say that my dream has now grown and I am now tri-costal. My main goal is to continue and design projects around the globe while enjoying and practicing different design styles.

What does design mean to you?

Design for me is a way of life. Starting with the design of a teaspoon handle to a skyscraper. I’m a great believer in Frank Lloyd Wright’s saying ‘Form Follows Function’. To my belief, any design, first and foremost it has got to function. If it does, then the design will follow.

The professional and international experience my studio offers, going all the way down to the smallest details along with the understanding of materials, advanced building methods, lighting, and ergonometric knowledge have always served to my advantage in the industry and as a result of my studio always offers this level of expertise in every project.
